ANNOUNCEMENT: PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD NOW EXTENDED THROUGH FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2020.
Ecology invites you to review and comment on a draft Agreed Order, draft permit, and draft Public Participation Plan, for the US Army Yakima Training Center (YTC) in Yakima, WA.
Agreed Order (AO)
Ecology has invited the Army to sign an AO for cleanup where releases of hazardous substances occurred. This AO requires the Army to improve polluted areas at 8 Solid Waste Management Units and 13 Areas of Concern at the YTC.
Draft Permit (Permit Lite)
The permit, called a Corrective Action Permit, allows environmental cleanup at this site to continue. The permit is required by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the federal law that outlines how to properly manage hazardous waste.
Public Participation Plan (PPP)
The goal of the PPP is to get the community involved during this process. It outlines how decisions are made and how and when people can comment on these decisions during the cleanup process.
Ecology will consider all comments and may change the documents based on them. All documents ‘out for public notice’ are finalized after the public comment and review period ends.
We will hold a public meeting if 10 or more people request one.
